PERMANENT INK by Avon Gale & Piper Vaughn Blog Tour

Hi! This is Piper Vaughn and Avon Gale and we're here today to talk about our sexy new contemporary romance, Permanent Ink, in which the worlds of street art and tattooing collide when a silver-fox tattoo artist falls for his much younger apprentice - who also happens to be his best friend's son.

About Permanent Ink

At twenty-three, Poe Montgomery is going nowhere. He still lives in his father’s basement and spends most of his time tagging with his friends. When an arrest lands him in debt, Poe accepts the front desk job at Permanent Ink, the tattoo shop owned by his father’s best friend, Jericho McAslan. Jericho is nearly twice Poe’s age, but with his ink and prematurely graying hair, he quickly takes the starring role in Poe’s hottest fantasies.

Jericho is known for his ability to transform poorly designed tattoos into works of art, but he was once as aimless and misdirected as Poe. Wanting to pay it forward the way someone once did for him, Jericho makes Poe his apprentice and is determined to keep things strictly professional. Easier said than done when Poe makes his interest—and his daddy kink—abundantly clear.

Jericho can’t resist Poe or their intense chemistry for long. But between the age gap, tension with Poe’s father, and Poe’s best friend calling him a sellout, they’ll need to ensure they’re both on the same page before they can rewrite their rocky start into something permanent.

Hello, everyone! Piper here. Thanks so much for hosting me and Avon Gale as we tour to celebrate our new release, Permanent Ink, now available from Riptide Publishing!
While mulling over possible blog topics, I decided to reach out on Twitter to ask our advance readers if they had any questions for Poe, who was the character I wrote in the story. Below are five of the questions I received, which Poe will be answering for you guys today.
I’ll let him get to it. ;)

When did you first realize you were bisexual? How did you come out to your parents?
I think I was like 11 or 12. I’d already been having crushes on… damn, just about everyone, to be honest. That was just when I realized there was an actual word for it. I didn’t have any angst about it, though. There wasn’t any, like, drama. It’d always just kind of been there, ya know? For me, attraction is all about the person. It doesn’t matter where they fall on the binary—or if they don’t consider themselves to be on the binary at all. Gender is a social construct! My only thing is—I like ’em older.
As for coming out to my parents, well, my mom took off when I was seven. I don’t give a crap about what she might think about it. Landon—my dad—we never actually had much of a conversation about it, to be honest. I told him I was bi when I was like fifteen. I just dropped it like a bomb during dinner with all this attitude, chin up, expecting him to have a problem with it. But he only shrugged and said, “Okay,” and went back to eating his spaghetti. That was it. (I know that makes me lucky. He’s a good guy. Maybe I shouldn’t give him so much shit, huh?)

Why do you call your father Landon?
Thinking back now, I guess it first started because I was trying to see how far I could push him before he finally snapped. I was always mouthing off, and I thought he’d get pissed and tell me to call him “Dad.” But he didn’t, and I guess it just kind of stuck after that. Which might be a good thing, since I like to call my boyfriends “Daddy” in bed. ;D

What’s your favorite tattoo on Jericho?
He has this water dragon tattoo low on his pelvis. It goes from hip to hip, right above his… well, you know. That’s my favorite. I like tracing it with my tongue.

What do you like most about working at Permanent Ink?
It helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Also, well, I got Jericho after I started working there, so that’s a perk. ;) But seriously, I didn’t know what I wanted before Jericho took me on as his apprentice. My life feels so different now than it did last year. So much has changed. I’m just excited about life, man. It’s great.

What graffiti style best describes you and each of the most important people in your life?
Oh, wow. Let me think…
Me: Stencil. I just love it visually, and I’m a big fan of Banksy and Shepard Fairey, who both do stencil work. It’s my favorite type of graffiti to do and to look at.
Jericho: Photorealistic. As you can tell from the name, these pieces look like they could be actual pictures instead of paintings. Jericho brings that same level of artistry to his tattooing. He’s amazing, and I’m constantly in awe of his talent. He inspires me to bring my A game every single day.
Blue: Wildstyle, which is complicated and abstract and almost impossible to read, but really visually striking and interesting.
Landon: Old School. This is the type of graffiti that originated in the 70s and 80s. It’s a classic, and it’s grungy, which I think is a perfect match for my dad.

About Avon Gale

Avon grew up in the southern United States, and now lives with her very patient husband in a liberal Midwestern college town. When she’s not writing, she’s either doing some kind of craft project that makes a huge mess, reading, watching horror movies, listening to music or yelling at her favorite hockey team to get it together, already. Avon is always up for a road trip, adores Kentucky bourbon, thinks nothing is as stress relieving as a good rock concert, and will never say no to candy.

At one point, Avon was the mayor of both Jazzercise and Lollicup on Foursquare. This tells you basically all you need to know about her as a person.

About Piper Vaughn

Piper Vaughn wrote her first love story at eleven and never looked back. Since then, she’s known that writing in some form was exactly what she wanted to do. A reader at the core, Piper loves nothing more than getting lost in a great book—fantasy, young adult, romance, sci-fi, she loves them all (and has an over-two-thousand-book library to prove it!). She’s an avid tea drinker, a hockey fanatic, a vintage typewriter collector, and loves to travel so much she has “wanderlust” tattooed on her ankle and dozens of countries on her bucket list. Recently, she discovered the world of nail art and realized she’s pretty handy with a paintbrush—as long as it’s a miniature one.

As a bisexual and Latinx person, Piper takes great pride in her heritage. She grew up in an ethnically diverse neighborhood and strives to put faces and characters of every ethnicity in her stories, so her fictional worlds are as colorful as the real one. She currently resides in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, son, and a cat that has Piper wrapped around her little paw. Above all, she believes that everyone needs a little true love in their life … even if it’s only in a book.
